Planned Giving Options

Gift in a Will

The most common form of legacy gift is a bequest in your will. With a little prior planning, your will can provide for your loved ones while also helping Sask Polytech students follow their dreams and Sask Polytech campuses deliver the best real world education.

To ensure your wishes are fulfilled, seek professional advice from your lawyer, financial planner and/or estate planner. Talking to your loved ones about your plans, as well as to Sask Polytech, is also beneficial to all involved.

Options for making a gift in your will include leaving a particular sum of money, a specific asset (such as property) or a certain percentage of your estate. Your estate will receive a charitable receipt for the gift, which will reduce the taxes owed.

Gift of Life Insurance

Naming Saskatchewan Polytechnic as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy is a simple way to support the next generation of students.

Options include:

Naming Saskatchewan Polytechnic as beneficiary of a policy enables benefits to be paid directly to the school. This is the simplest form of donating a policy. Giving this way entitles your estate to a charitable donation receipt, avoids probate taxes, and minimizes the risk of creditor claims against the estate.

Donating an existing life insurance policy involves designating Saskatchewan Polytechnic as the owner and beneficiary of an existing policy that you no longer need. You will receive a charitable receipt for the policy’s cash surrender value. If further payments are required, you will receive a charitable donation receipt for the payments you make after Saskatchewan Polytechnic becomes the owner and beneficiary.

Donating a new policy purchased with Saskatchewan Polytechnic as the owner and beneficiary. If you choose this option, you will receive a charitable donation receipt for the full amount of all premiums paid.

We recommend discussing options for gifting life insurance with your family and your professional advisors.

Gift of RRSP’s, RRIF’s and TFSA’s

Naming Saskatchewan Polytechnic as the direct beneficiary of a RRSP, RRIF or TFSA entitles your estate to a charitable receipt AND avoids probate taxes while minimizing the risk of creditor claims against the estate.

It’s as simple as asking your financial advisor or financial institution to change the beneficiary to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Gift of Securities

Transfer appreciated securities, such as stocks, bonds or GICs, to Saskatchewan Polytechnic. You can eliminate capital gains taxes and benefit from a charitable tax receipt.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic serves students through applied learning opportunities on Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 Territories and the homeland of the Métis.
